    About us

Apex Hotels is one of the UK's leading operators of contemporary city centre hotels. The company currently operates three hotels in London, four in Edinburgh and one in Dundee.

Customer service is the primary focus for all members of the Apex Hotel team. The company has a reputation for providing a 'friendly face' to all guests and aims to provide positive opportunities for interaction with staff at every property.

Based in Edinburgh, Apex Hotels is a small family owned Scottish company, operating with a mission to provide chic and stylish destination properties in key markets across the UK. Management has adopted a philosophy of controlled, dynamic growth, with various key cities currently under review for potential expansion.

Apex Hotels is wholly owned by Norman and Dorothy Springford and their family, with each member of the family contributing their experience and skills to the Company.

Apex Hotels was established in 1996 with the opening of the Apex International Hotel in Edinburgh's Grassmarket. A ten-month conversion of the former Heriot-Watt University Mount batten Building saw the hotel open in April 1996 with 120 rooms. Originally launched as a budget three-star hotel, the Apex International went through a complete refurbishment in early 1998 and transformed into a 4 star property. An additional 51 rooms were also added at this time.

Due to the success of the initial hotel, Apex Hotels secured a site in the Haymarket area of Edinburgh in September 1997 and converted a derelict office building into the Apex European, a 66 bedroom property.

A second former office building was acquired in the Grassmarket area and opened as the 4 star Apex City Hotel in July 2002. The design, content and service culture of the Apex City has now been drawn from and implemented across the entire brand.

The company's first new-build property and its first hotel outside Edinburgh was the 4 star Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa in Dundee. Opened in March 2003, the hotel was a pivotal development within the regeneration of the city's waterfront area. Providing 153 rooms, conference and event facilities for up to 450, a bar, brasserie, restaurant and a Spa with a pool, hot tubs, sauna, steam room and gym.

In November 2005, Apex Hotels expanded its portfolio further with the opening of the Apex City of London Hotel, located between Tower Bridge and the Bank of England. The former office building has been transformed into a focal point of the area, offering 4 star luxury. Continuing the contemporary Apex style, this was the company's first property situated outside Scotland.

In 2009 Apex Hotels added two new 4 star deluxe hotels to the collection. In March 2009, they re-opened the historic Waterloo Hotel on Waterloo Place at the east end of Princes Street in Edinburgh. The Apex Waterloo Place Hotel is Apex's fourth hotel in Edinburgh, combining the traditional Georgian features of the historic building with contemporary style. In November of the same year, the luxurious Apex London Wall Hotel opened on Copthall Avenue. The 89 bedroom property was Apex Hotels' second London hotel.

The latest property was added to the portfolio in March 2012. Situated just off Fleet Street, this landmark building was converted into the four star Apex Temple Court Hotel with 184 luxury bedrooms, each offering the latest in business facilities, together with bar, restaurant, executive lounge and courtyard.
