Louise Beattie is a wedding and portrait photographer based in Angus, Scotland. She has photographed brides and grooms at venues all over the country, including our very own Apex City Quay Hotel in Dundee. We asked her from some wedding tips to help couples planning their big day.
After a wedding I like to ask brides and grooms for any thoughts and advice they would like to pass on to couples planning their wedding - I remember how daunting it was planning my own wedding!
There are usually common themes such as choosing supportive bridesmaids, scheduling far more time than you think you need for getting ready and enjoying every moment as the day passes so quickly.
A lot of couples say that the biggest surprise for them on their wedding day was just how emotional they were, far more than expected, and to have some tissues handy.
Carolyn recommends buying a month by month wedding planner and keeping it up to date so that you do not miss anything.
Another good piece of advice is to wear your wedding shoes around the house to make sure they are comfy on the day. (Did you know that you can buy heelstoppers to stop your heels sinking into the grass if you will be outside on your wedding day?)
Heath advises that grooms should have someone check their speech to make sure they have thanked everyone (he missed his sister, who has taken great delight in reminding him ever since!), whilst Colin recommends that grooms become involved in the planning and not leave everything to their wives to be.
Advice given for couples with young children was not to expect too much from them - if they feel under pressure to be 'good', chances are that they won't be. Have plenty of things to keep them occupied, making them part of the ceremony if you can.
I hope that some of the above tips might be helpful to you as you prepare for your wedding day.
