What's on in Dundee in November 2013
Event of the month
Dundee Jazz Festival (20 -24 November)
The Dundee Jazz Festival evokes the distinctive character of British jazz which can trace its roots back to 1919 when the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, hailing from New Orleans, toured the UK and ignited a vibrant new music scene.
Despite once being frowned upon by the authorities as being "riotous" or "unnerving", British Jazz became a cultural sponge further absorbing the America jazz tradition during World War 2 and then taking varied influences from Africa and the Caribbean. All that is best about British Jazz is now coming to Dundee from 20 - 24 November and fans and curious parties alike are in for a treat. Among those flexing their talents will be Jo Harman, considered the hottest new vocalist on the UK blues scene and trombonist Chris Barber who has been the most important figure in the British traditional jazz scene for over 50 years. If you have never experienced jazz before, you don't know what you're missing baby!
