Our favourite winter destination

Blog
#City Guide #Travel #Entertainment
From Kelvingrove to Princes Square, follow us across Glasgow as we show you why Scotland's liveliest city is our top winter destination this year.

Glasgow comes to life in winter and in Scotland's friendliest city, there's always something to do. Whether you're in the mood for a festive tipple, a sophisticated trip to the ballet or a good old-fashioned Glasgow night out, you'll never be short of things to keep you entertained. Lucky for us, our Apex City of Glasgow Hotel is located right in the heart of this dynamic city on the bustling Bath Street, just a short stroll from Queen Street and Central Stations.

Here are some of our favourite things to do in Glasgow this winter...

The Snow Queen is bound to be one of the most exciting events in Glasgow this winter

The Snow Queen by Scottish Ballet

From 3 January - 18 January 2020, Theatre Royal is welcoming Scottish Ballet for the world premiere of The Snow Queen, a magical winter ballet that was the basis for everyone's favourite Disney movie, Frozen. The glittering production marks the end of Scottish Ballet's 50 year anniversary and will be accompanied by music from the full Scottish Ballet Orchestra, so it's not to be missed. Guaranteed to be a fantastic night out for all the family, you can find out more about the ballet and get tickets here.

We love picturesque winter walks in Glasgow

Glasgow's beautiful parks

Glasgow is home to some beautiful scenery that often gets overlooked in winter. Parks like Kelvingrove, Alexandra Park and Glasgow Green are always bustling with people in summer which can make navigating them a bit tricky. In winter however, these beautiful parks are a great place to go for a crisp morning walk, without all the sun seekers who flock there in the warmer months. Wrap up, grab your camera and we guarantee you'll get some pretty magical shots of frosty Glasgow that'll make braving the cold worthwhile.

Cocktail being poured
Cocktails are one of our favourite things to drink in winter!

Eden Mill Blendworks

If you're not a fan of taking in the great Scottish outdoors and prefer to spend winter indoors with a tipple (or two), you'll want to check out Eden Mill Blendworks in Princes Square. This gin experience will definitely heat you up on cold winter nights and is the perfect activity to enjoy with friends or a partner. Not only will you get to sample the botanicals that go into gin, you'll get to make your very own bespoke blend and take it home with you. Tickets are available from just £65 and you can find out more here.

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum

Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum

Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum is fascinating year-round and this winter is no exception. From 5 December 2019 - 5 January 2020, the art gallery is being transformed into a magical festive wonderland, cleverly named 'Elfingrove', that will take guests on a spellbinding tour of Glasgow's most loved museum. Not only will the museum be getting a wintery makeover for the occasion, the gardens at Kelvingrove will also be transformed with twinkling lights and street food trucks from Glasgow's top eateries. Find out more about the must-see spectacular here.

Royal Exchange Square in Glasgow lit up at night
Royal Exchange Square

Royal Exchange Square

One of the most picturesque squares in Glasgow, Royal Exchange Square is the perfect place to grab a hot drink or a glass of fizz in between shops. Perfectly placed just off the city's famous Buchanan Street, in the heart of the Merchant City, Royal Exchange Square is adorned with twinkling lights that add a touch of glamour to a cold winter's day. With plenty of bars and restaurants on the square, and designer shops just a stone's throw away, it's the ideal place to stop for a refreshment during the January sales (plus you can snap a picture with the infamous Duke of Wellington statue, traffic cone hat and all).
