The Barber Of Seville
Description
By Gioacchino Rossini
Presented by Bath Opera
Restoration Comedy meets Whitehall Farce.
Subterfuge, mistaken identity, sleight of hand and lovely music.
Figaro is central to the plot and uses all his cunning and brains to manipulate the rest of the cast.
Bartolo an elderly Doctor seeks to make beautiful Rosina more than his ward by marrying her. She has other ideas
Master of disguises Count Almaviva, (aka Lindoro, aka a drunken soldier, aka a singing teacher) is madly in love with Rosina - although he has never actually met her! With Figaro's help she tries to thwart Bartolo's plans to marry her.
Rosina is no shrinking violet and rather fancies Lindoro (who is really the Count). Gentlemen beware if you dare to cross Rosina!
Add to the mix the greedy music teacher Don Basilio who runs with the hare and the hounds but has his price when it comes to whose side he is actually on - and the result is glorious mayhem!
Please note that we have temporarily increased our theatre restoration levy from £1 to £1.50 per ticket, due to the coronovirus pandemic. This levy applies to all transactions, whether made in person at our Box Office, by post or by phone, for all payment types. Telephone bookings incur an additional £1.75 booking fee per transaction.
The Rondo opens half an hour before the start of each show. Please ensure that you arrive before the advertised start time, as it may not be possible to admit late-comers.
