The Lighthouse is Scotland's Centre for Design and Architecture. Designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the building formerly housed the Glasgow Herald before becoming the exhibition and events space it is today. The Lighthouse hosts a varied programme of temporary exhibitions, as well as the permanent Interpretation Centre on Level Three. There are two viewpoints where visitors can take in the city skyline, the open-air Mackintosh Tower (accessed via a staircase from Level Three) and the indoor Viewing Platform on Level Six which is fully accessible and accessed via lift only. There is a cafe on Level Five of the building and a Glasgow Museums shop on the ground floor.
