The new water stations will be installed in all of Apex Hotels by the end of the second quarter 2023, providing fresh and sparkling water to guests as well as staff in the hotel’s bars, restaurants, and conference areas. The system will take 525,000 small plastic bottles and 75,000 glass bottles out of the waste system in favour of reusable glass bottles.
The move away from single use plastics and glass supports the hotel group’s wider sustainability, social and governance strategy which includes a continued efforts to reduce waste and packaging across the business. Apex Hotels has already reduced waste levels year on year by over 20% with Zero Waste going to landfill. The company recycle 60% of their waste including recycling uniforms and cooking oil into valuable biodiesel. Apex also source 100% of their energy from Scottish Wind Farms and aim to install LED lighting across all hotels by 2024.
Michael Stott, Commercial Director, Apex Hotels said:“We are delighted to announce our partnership with Belu Water to reduce single use plastic and glass from our hotels. Not only will the new Eco Water Stations provide great quality water, they align perfectly with our drive to more environmentally conscious business practices across all of our hotels.”
Belu Water is a registered Social Enterprise and sustainable business committed to reducing carbon footprint and single use plastic and glass bottling. Apex will be donating £1 from every bottle sold to Belu Water who in turn give 100% of their profits to WaterAid.

About Apex Hotels
Apex Hotels is a family-owned 4-star hotel group with nine hotels in some of the UK’s most popular city centre locations, including London, Bath, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee.
The hotel group was founded by Scottish entrepreneur Norman Springford who opened his first hotel in 1996, Apex Grassmarket Hotel in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. Since then, Apex Hotels has grown into one of the UK’s leading independent luxury hotel chains, attracting tourists and corporate guests from across the globe.
Apex Hotels’ most recent hotel, the magnificent 177-bedroom Apex City of Bath joined the group in 2017. It is the group’s first purpose-built hotel and the first of its portfolio to be opened outside of Scotland and London.
As well as offering consistently high standards for its business and leisure guests, Apex Hotels has a committed approach to environmental and sustainable tourism practices. It is one of few independent hotel groups to win a Silver Green Tourism award for all nine of its hotels.
