London comes to life in spring and there's always plenty to do in the capital. The city is full of iconic attractions and spring is the best time to explore them with the full family. We've cobbled together a few of the things London has to offer in the season of all things new - check them out!
If you’re looking to see London from a different perspective, then one of the best views can be seen from the London Eye. The gigantic wheel offers unparalleled views of central London's world-famous landmarks from its prime riverside location on the South Bank, opposite Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. The colossal, 443-foot-high observation wheel was built to mark the millennium in 2000 and became one of the most popular paid attractions in the United Kingdom. Our Apex Temple Court Hotel is a great place to stay if you’re visiting any of central London’s famous sights. Situated just 15 minutes from Trafalgar Square, you’ll be just a short tube ride or walk away, and perfectly placed to take in all the city has to offer.
Located on the very edge of London, you can visit the real film studios where the Harry Potter series was filmed and explore the original sets; from Diagon Alley and the Forbidden Forest to Hogwarts itself! The level of detail is incredible – even members of your party unfamiliar with the film will find the craftsmanship on show genuinely fascinating. Sets are decorated depending on the season (you can even enjoy a genuine feast in the Great Hall, if you’re prepared to spend big).
If your kids love dinosaurs, are curious about creepy crawlies and genuinely love learning and seeing amazing things, then the Natural History Museum is a must-visit. Kids (and adults) can examine geological fossils, minerals and rocks in the Earth Lab and discover the epic forces that shape our planet in the Volcanoes and Earthquakes gallery. Free Explorer backpacks are available for under sevens, filled with activities to keep them amused and help them get the most out of the museum.
The Tower of London, founded by William the Conqueror in 1066-7, is one of the world’s most famous fortresses, and one of Britain’s most visited historic sites. The building is a powerful and enduring symbol of the Norman Conquest and has been enjoyed as a royal palace and served as an armoury, a medieval fortress, a prison, the Royal Mint and, of course, home to the Crown Jewels. For a few years in the 1830s, it even housed a zoo! The historic landmark is also a five-minute walk from our Apex City of London Hotel, so you can enjoy the comforts of one of our dreamy beds after your fun day out.
Fancy a date with royalty? If you’ve always wanted to sip tea and eat marmalade sandwiches with the Queen, then read on, as this will get you one step closer to that dream... Of course, a visit to Buckingham Palace, which has served as the official London residence of Britain's sovereigns since 1837, is what you need. Today, it’s the administrative headquarters of the Queen and it’s still very much a working palace, so despite its undoubted treasures inside, access is very limited. Changing of the Guard is the biggest draw for tourists and it's free but you'll need to get to the palace at least 45 minutes prior to it starting at 10.45am to get a good position.
