Best Beaches To Visit Near Our Cities

Edinburgh 

Known as Edinburgh’s Seaside, Portobello Beach has a fantastic promenade full of things to do and see and even has two playparks. The two-mile stretch of golden sand is perfect for a picnic, digging sandcastles or sunbathing. The shallow waters and gentle waves provide an ideal paddling place for little ones while the high street is full of independent shops, cafés, and restaurants to suit everyone. Less than five miles from the city center, it’s a short bus journey away from all three of our central Edinburgh hotels.    

Dundee 

What’s more fun than a beach? A beach with a castle! Broughty Ferry Beach is huge, backed by dunes and overlooked by the historic Broughty Ferry Castle. This award-winning seaside is visited by thousands of families in the summer months to build sandcastles and paddle. The Esplanade runs along the top of the beach and features a play park, crazy golf course and kiddicars from April to October. Only 14 minutes from Dundee city centre, the beach is easy to visit from Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa.

The UK’s capital isn’t known for its sandy beaches but there is actually a hidden gem on the Piccadilly Line! West London is home to Ruislip Beach which is a 700-acre woodland nature reserve with a natural lake and a gorgeous sands. Although swimming is not permitted, kids will love the miniature train and pirate ship.

Or, if you're not opposed to spending some time taking a scenic train journey, the UK's most famous beach, Brighton Beach, is only between an hour to an hour and a half away from the centre of London. Busy all year round, enjoy a fun-filled afternoon on the amusement rides at Palace Pier, tucking into some traditional fish and chips, or making sand stars as you sun it up.
