Apex Top 5 Unique Hotel Requests

Football crazy

In Scotland, football is a big deal and nowhere more so than Dundee. With Dens Park stadium a short distance away from Apex City Quay and Spa Hotel, players and fans alike are often guests.

With so many footie fans in the hotel, there are bound to be some requests for something to do with the beautiful game. One of the best that staff received was an ask for Glasgow Rangers midfielder, Jack Ryan, to be in their room!

Instead of laughing of the funny request, staff rose to the occasion and provided masks of the prolific player for guests to wear along with other cut outs. Masks were arranged on the bed to make it look like Jack himself was tucked in.

A Crafty Stay

When families stay with children, despite all the excitement of being on holiday, sometimes they need a little down time in the room to do an activity they enjoy. One slightly more unusual request was again from Apex City Quay and Spa Hotel.

Our team member explained that one guest first asked reception for some scissors, which they were happy to provide. The craft project going on in the room must have grown more elaborate as the same guest then called down to ask for superglue, paper, coloured pens and glitter!

The team provided everything they had on hand and even managed to source some sparkly tinsel which went down very well with the family.

Flowers Fit For A Queen

With three hotels in London, many of our guests enjoy learning about the Royal family during their visit. Flowers are a typical request for special occasions in hotel rooms but, in London especially, our team have several requests a month for the Queen’s favourite flower – Myrtle.

After the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth, these requests have increased as the funeral bouquet atop her majesty’s casket included flowers from the same myrtle that she carried in her wedding bouquet when she married Prince Phillip in 1947.

Although the pretty plant is native to the Mediterranean, it has been grown in England since the 16th century - lucky for staff members who have sourced it for many guests.

Quackers For The Ducks

At Apex, there is once thing that every guest will associate us with – our ducks! No matter which of the chic hotels you stay in, every guest will be welcomed by a little friend who represents the hotel where he lives.

So, what do guests ask for? Ducks, ducks and more ducks! Some of our visitors travel UK wide just to stay at our hotels so that they can build their collection. As you can imagine, this isn't as simple as it seems, and with some limited edition ducks in the mix, we've made it even harder for guests to get their hands on every one of our mascots...

With this being said, it's not uncommon for guests to take a shortcut and directly request the duck missing from their collection, and although our team will do all that they can to help, they can sometimes be hard to hunt down!

A Cuckoo Request

Edinburgh is known as quite a cosmopolitan city. Our team have reported some very unusual requests from our 3 hotels in the city. One of the best was really Cuckoo.

One of our team members, who has worked in hospitality for over 20 years, reported that his oddest request was for a cuckoo clock. The guest phoned the hotel in advance of his stay and explained that he can only wake up to the sound of the distinctive clock and can the hotel provide?

After scratching his head for a full 10 minutes, the team member remembered that his grandmother was an avid collector of Cuckoo Clocks and managed to persuade her to lend one to him. The guest was thrilled that he was able to have his morning routine while on holiday and the team member’s granny was happy that someone shared her love of the clocks.
